The Escapes Network began in the Carolinas with Southern Escapes, a publication built on a simple observation: the people deciding where to live next are drowning in listings and starving for arithmetic. Two letters a week, field guides across seven Southeast regions, intelligence briefings, and comparisons blunt enough to name who each place is wrong for. It turned out that honesty compounds faster than advertising.
Hamptons Escapes brings the same lens to the East End, from the other side of the decision. This is where a great deal of American wealth summers, and where a growing share of it quietly runs the numbers on what staying costs. We publish those numbers: the carry, the cliff, the Peconic math, and the cross-market translations, alongside, in time, the network’s Weekend Escape letter from actual trips out here.
We are not the local paper and will not pretend to be. Dan’s Papers has that seat and has earned it since 1960. Our seat is the relocation buyer’s: what it costs to stay, what it buys to leave, and who should do neither.
What we will not do
No fictional reviews, no unvisited “favorites,” no atmosphere passed off as reporting. First-person content appears only after first-person trips, and says so.
Coverage cannot be purchased. Partner relationships are disclosed, and any future sponsorship will be labeled as such, visibly.
Every figure carries its source and date. When sources use different geographies, we say so instead of blending them into confidence.
Every comparison names who each place is wrong for. A comparison where everyone wins is an advertisement.
